All climbing and rescue clinics are administered by Edgeworks Climbing School.

All participants must register, prepay and complete a waiver form through Edgeworks in order to participate in a clinic. Please take note of the Terms and Conditions below.

We anticipate the 2025 Index Climbers Fest Clinic line-up to be comparable to 2024 for referance.

2024 Clinic Offerings

BIPOC Trad Anchors Clinic 
Building secure belay or rappel anchors is the foundation of outdoor rock climbing. In this clinic, you’ll learn the principles of gear placement, anchor construction and understand what makes a solid anchor. You’ll also practice building numerous anchors in different locations under the mentorship and feedback of a trained guide. This day is valuable for anyone who wants to build secure climbing anchors with confidence, whether at a top rope area, on a sport climb, or in the mountains.

DURATION: 1 day (9:00AM - 4:00PM)

LEVEL: Best suited for Beginner to Intermediate Climbers

Crack Climbing Movement Clinic 

The vast majority of traditional, multipitch, and alpine climbs follow lines of natural weakness in the rock. Learn how to effectively use your body to ascend cracks, from tiny "tips cracks" to body-swallowing "off-widths."  This clinic will cover the fundamentals of crack climbing while giving you plenty of time to practice the various techniques. This clinic is geared toward climbers starting their crack climbing journey and will focus on climbs in the 5.7 to 5.9 grade range.

LEVEL: Best suited for Novice to Intermediate Climbers

Advanced Crack Climbing  and Trad Clinic

The proper techniques to climb cracks is a common weaknesses of modern rock climbers. This skill is critical if you wish to see your full potential as rock climber at Index or in the mountains. This clinic will cover the fundamentals of crack climbing while giving you plenty of time to practice the various techniques. In addition you will get an introduction to racking on your harness as well as placing gear in a mock-lead setting. Join the guides of the Mountain Bureau to help you get sending towards your aspired grade in a fun and low-stress environment. This clinic will help climbers focus on the the learned skill sets of crack climbing and the overall efficiency of movement while crack climbing. This clinic is geared toward climbers progressing into leading cracks and will focus on climbs in the 5.9 to 5.11 grade range.

Bailing: The Art of Forced Descent

Unplanned descents happen all the time! This course teaches fundamental concepts of forced retreat, anchor evaluation, and descent options for single and multipitch climbs. Gain some skills in terrain assessment, creative anchoring, and making sound decisions in stressful scenarios.

DURATION: 1 day (9:00AM - 4:00PM)

LEVEL: Best suited for climbers with trad gear placement experience

Multipitch Efficiency

Multipitch climbing doesn't have to be slow and inefficient. Learn ways to organize and speed up your belay transitions on multpitch climbs to go faster on long routes. Dig into these systems and practice with one of our guides. This course is a "ground school" to allow plenty of time to practice and build skills through repetition.

Leader Rescue Course

Ever wonder what to do if your climbing partner gets hurt from a lead fall? Accidents happen and it's important to have the fundamental technical skills and mindset necessary to effectively manage a stressful situation. This clinic focuses on core skills of maintaining personal and team security, rope ascending, creating releasable systems, lowering, and rappelling.

LEVEL: Best suited for Intermediate to Advanced Climbers

Improvised Aid & French Free Techniques

Sometimes a short crux can block you from doing a classic climb that is otherwise in your ability. Learn the skills to aid past a short section of hard climbing, hang a rope on a project, or move faster on long routes. In addition, you will get an introduction to racking gear on your harness and placing gear in a mock-lead setting. This clinic is geared toward climbers progressing into leading routes and will focus on climbs in the 5.9 to 5.11 range.

Adaptive Climbing Techniques for Professionals

Learn the considerations and nuances of technical ropes systems used for rigging assisted climbing systems and seated harnesses. The afternoon session will entail working with adaptive climbers on real routes. This clinic is designed for guides and outdoor instructors. Presented in partnership with Outdoors For All.

DURATION: 1 day (8:00AM - 12:00PM, 12:30-4:00PM)

Outdoor Terms & Conditions - Special Events
This policy applies to Edgeworks special programs that occur at large events including, but not limited to, Index Climbers Festival. Edgeworks has carefully crafted this policy to ensure fairness to both our clients and our guide staff. Please contact us for clarification about this policy.


Payment Timeline

  • Full payment is due at the time of booking.

Cancellation Policy

When you cancel:

  • All requests must be made in writing to guiding@edgeworksclimbing.com and be received within the deadlines stated herein.

  • Cancellations requested within 24 hours of booking are eligible for a full refund minus all merchant processing fees.

  • No refunds, credits, or rebookings will be provided for cancellations, under any circumstances, after 24 hours from the original booking.

  • If you ‘no-show’ to a program or any portion of a program, no refund or credit will be issued or pro-rated.

  • Once you leave the trailhead or program start area, no refund or credit will be issued for any reason including instances of inclement weather, environmental conditions, personal fitness, or injury.

When we cancel or reschedule:

  • Edgeworks reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a program at any time for any reason.
     

Weather Policy
All of our outdoor programs are subject to the weather and environmental conditions that exist on the dates you have chosen. In signing up for a trip, you are agreeing to attempt the program even if conditions are not “ideal.”

  • Before the trip begins -- if conditions are deemed unsafe by the guide, we reserve the right to change the venue, itinerary, or activity. 

  • After your trip begins -- if weather or conditions make the original plan not feasible, you are not entitled to a refund.

Trip Cancellation Insurance
Edgeworks strongly encourages the purchase of trip cancellation insurance that covers losses in the event that illness or injury prevents participation in your chosen program. There are many providers of this service; we have had positive experiences with TravelGuard.com.
